Meet Some of the Council Members

Council Member Jake Gibbs, 3rd District

Jake Gibbs is the new Council Member for the 3rd district. A native of Troy, NY, Lexington has been his home for 36 years. He teaches history and logic at the BCTC. A former co-owner of Alfalfa restaurant, he understands and supports locally-owned businesses. He looks forward to working to encourage more affordable housing and retail downtown. Making Lexington more pedestrian- and bicyclefriendly is high on his agenda.

Jake is married to nutrition advocate, Anita Courtney. They have two daughters, Delia and Delaney Gibbs. Delia works at Lexington Community Radio Now and West 6th Brewing Company. Delaney is a senior at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. The Courtney-Gibbs family resides in the Bell Court Neighborhood. The family includes two cats and three chickens.

Council Member Angela Evans, 6th District

Angela C. Evans is serving her first term as Council Member of the 6th District. After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work with honors from Clark Atlanta, Council Member Evans attended the University of Tennessee, College of Law, where she received her Juris Doctorate in 2000 and was awarded the Dean’s Citation for exemplary service to the College of Law.

Prior to her election in 2015, she served as an Assistant Attorney General of Kentucky for six years, providing legal services to various state agencies. She also served as General Counsel to the Kentucky Secretary of State. Council Member Evans began her legal career as a Public Defender in Lexington, Kentucky, representing indigent clients in misdemeanor and felony court. She also served on the Ethics Commission for several years.

Council Member Susan Lamb, 4th District

Susan Lamb is serving her first term representing the Fourth District. Although newlyelected, Council Member Lamb has extensive knowledge in the processes, challenges and policies affecting Lexington- Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) and its citizens. Council Member Lamb worked 271/2 years for LFUCG, including service in Economic Development and as Deputy Council Clerk for 17 years prior to being appointed Council Clerk in 2008. Throughout her career, she has been instrumental in updating, maintaining, and securing the best possible services for the public and elected officials, and she strives to continue this commitment as a Council Member.
