St. Patrick’s Day Festivities Are Coming Together

The Alltech St. Patrick’s Parade and Festival Committee is accepting entries for the 36th annual parade that will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 14th, on Main Street in downtown Lexington. “We are looking forward to a big parade this year. Last year we had the largest crowd ever,” said Tommy McClure, longtime head of the Parade Marshals that organize the parade.

“It’s the longest-running continuous citywide civic activity in Lexington,” added McClure. “It’s really rewarding to hear some of the parade participants tell us that they were in the parade when they were children and now they are bringing their kids with them.”

The parade will be part of an all-day celebration starting at 8:00 a.m. with the running of the Shamrock Shuffle to support Habitat for Humanity. At 11:00 a.m. there will be the annual “Blessing of the Keg” at the Alltech tents in Cheapside Park to officially start the free all-day Irish Festival, which will last until 7:00 p.m. Special emphasis is being placed on family and children’s activities this year.
